Club BBQ - Friday 29th June - Be there or be a burnt sausage

Summer just wouldn't be summer without rain, Wimbledon, Spanish students and of course, the annual 3ROC BBQ/party. This will be taking place on Friday 29th June in St. Columba's College so come along for what should be a great evening's entertainment. We'll supply the bbq so you just bring your own food/drink and plenty of energy because being 3ROC, we're going to think of some way to get you running about (before eating of course). St. Columba's is just behind Marley Park so to get there, follow the Grange Road alongside Marley and take the College Road (parallel to the new motoway) to the junction of Whitechurch Road. Turn left here, go under the fly-over bridge, left again and it's the first left going up Kilmashogue Lane. The fun will begin around 7.00pm so see you there. Why not bring a friend and introduce them to orienteering!

Back on the hills again!

At last! After three months of restrictions, the hills are alive with the sound of panting as orienteers return to their favourite pastime. Well done to everyone for playing their part in stopping the spread of Foot and Mouth disease. Hopefully if anything good can come out of it, that there will be better understanding and cooperation between landowners and orienteers. As the current TIO shows, there has been a flurry of activity with the CNOC Summer league and the Senior Squad league filling up the month of June. All major championships have been given or will shortly receive new dates starting with the Leinster Champs on September 16th so there should be plenty for everyone to make up for the enforced break.

Are you in control??

The IOA are currently asking all orienteering clubs to submit a list of all members who are eligible controllers and their current category level. Based on the information available to the 3ROC committee, the following list has been drawn up and will be sent to the IOA. If your name is incorrectly listed or omitted then please contact the Secretary, David Brennan, at 836 1214 or dbrennan@adm.ie

C1 Trina Cleary

C2 (formerly Grade 1): Ronan Cleary, Julie Cleary, Pat Flanagan, Justin May, Michael McAuliffe, John McCullough, Ted McGrath, Harold White.

C3 (formerly Grade 2): Nigel Campbell-Crawford, Brian Hollinshead, Frank Martindale, Brendan McGrath, Monica Nowlan, Sean Rothery.

Club shorts

No doubt all club members will join me in offering our sincerest condolences to the family of Tom McCormack from GEN who was tragically killed in a recent car crash. Tom was a regular face at orienteering events and will be greatly missed.

Now that the hills are open again, you have even more reason to go training and shake off those extra pounds that may have crept on during the F&M crisis. As usual, training takes place in UCD on Mondays and Thursdays at 6.30pm. Meet at the car park beside the running track where our expert coaches, Lindie Naughton and Nadya Hutchinson will put you on the road to fitness.

Congratulations to Nora Lee and John McCullough on the birth of their son Aidan. Now we can look forward to fielding an all-McCullough mixed junior team with Cliona and Eoin already leading the charge.

Well done to Trina Cleary who has been ratified as a C1 controller, the only one in the country. This means that Trina is qualified to control at World Cup and Ranking events. Any chance Trina that you'll do the "Come and try it" in the Phoenix Park next September?

Speaking of "Come and try it", we will be making a special effort for this year's event which is provisionally scheduled for September 2nd. This is our best chance to introduce people to the sport and it is vital that all members tell their friends and colleagues about it. We hope to send out posters to all members and would ask that you put them up in work, local shops or wherever they will be noticed.

This year's Veteran Home International is being held on the weekend of 8/9th September in Macclesfield and Buxton, near Manchester, in conjunction with the Twin Peaks event. Good luck to all club members participating.
