Community Education Courses

  • Provided within a variety of Community Education Centres

  • Provided at times that best facilitates the learning of adults;

  • Provide opportunities for individuals to be actively involved in their own learning

  • Provided in response to the needs and requests of the local community, and

  • Facilitate initial and return contact with education

  • Lay the foundation from which progress is made on the educational ladder.

  • Identify an interest in and/or talent for a subject area.

 The Centres using VEC allocated hours provide a range of courses.  The majority of these can be classified as leisure/recreation and personal development programmes.  The remainder would include skill development programmes, such as computers, office procedures, tutor training and communications.

 The consumption of actual hours is set out in the chart below where the highest number of allocated hours in community education is used to provide Art and Craft classes.
