Parenting Course

Time: Wednesday, 7:30 - 9:30

Aim of the Course:

To provide parents with the confidence, knowledge and skills that will enable them to become active participants in the provision of effective sexual health education to their children
    Objectives of the course:

  • To provide a medium for parents to talk freely about sex, sexuality and sex education.
  • To explore parents' attitudes and values, and how these might impact on their dealings with their children.
  • To address difficulties in raising and discussing sexual health issues with young people.
  • To address barriers to provision of effective sex education.
  • To develop the skills parents require to provide an effective sex education to their children, such as communication skills.
  • To develop parents' self esteem.
  • To provide accurate factual information on relevant issues.

Proposed Course Outline.

Session 1: Introduction.
Session 2: Sex education.
Session 3: Self-esteem
Session 4: Communication.
Session 5: Talking about sex
Session 6: Attitudes and values.
Session 7: Setting limits.
Session 8:Dealing with problems and difficult situations.
Session 9: Factual information.
Session 10:Close.
