Tramore Bay Surf Club are developing a surf centre on the beach in
Tramore. This centre will be located between the two existing shops at the lower end of
the promenade. It will be the first of its type in the country, and will provide shower,
changing, storage and other facilities for all watersports enthusiasts and beach
users. It will also include an information and exhibition / display area. It is a
major and unique development which will add a much needed sporting complex to the
south-east. This centre, which will be non-profit taking, will open on a year round basis
and it is also anticipated that it will become the National centre for training
lifeguards.
The cost of this impressive building is £145,000. The Tramore Bay Surf
Club has already secured £91,000, mainly through Waterford Development Partnership who
awarded a grant of £35,000 and the National Lottery, who awarded £10,000, proving the
level of confidence and support in the project. We have set an attainable target of
£27,500 through local business involvement, fund-raising and lifetime memberships. This
leaves a deficit of approximately £25,000. We are currently working very hard to secure
this shortfall by various means and most recently have met with our local TD Martin Cullen
who has given a commitment to helping us secure the money required.
As you can see from the photograph the design is circular to compliment
Tramore Bays famous landmarks of the Metalmans 3 pillars in Newtown and the
two pillars on Brownstown head. It is also functional and will provide the people of
Tramore and visitors to the town with a facility to enjoy our beach to the full.
We will be seeking donations from the local community and indeed have
already received pledges for a considerable amount. Pledge forms are available from the
above address. Your support will be essential for this and the various fund-raising
activities which we will be undertaking shortly.
We have achieved a considerable amount in the last year. Full planning
permission has just been granted (5th. of November) and as such there is every
reason to believe that with your help and energy this Centre will be built this year.
Your involvement will be greatly appreciated and acknowledged.
