St John’s Community Development Association would like to take this opportunity to give a progress report our work to date. As you know we organised a very successful fundraising venture in 1998. This provided us with the funds necessary to develop two all – weather playing pitches at Cuilbeg. We also built a block perimeter wall which is now complete. Most of this work was funded from our own resources and we would like to say a very sincere thank you to everybody who helped in any way to make this venture such a success. Without your help this would not have been possible. We have recently started work on building Dressing Rooms. These will include wheelchair access and toilet facilities for the disabled. We have also purchased grass cutting equipment goal posts and nets, training equipment and other items for use at the grounds. We have also been able to provide some equipment for the Community Centre and for the community tennis and basketball courts adjacent to the School. All of this was supported by Area Development Management Ltd and the Combat Poverty Agency through the European Union Special Support Programme for Peace and Reconciliation. We also hope to be able to draw funds from National Lottery towards the building of the dressing rooms. The Special Support Programme for Peace and Reconciliation also grant aided us in training and cross border participation. We were able to provide swimming classes for all children attending Carraroe National School, including traveller family children, as part of our Community project. We also hosted clubs from Northern Ireland to our area. This proved to be very successful with Derrygonnelly under – age teams. We hope to have our Dressing Rooms completed by September 2001 with both Soccer and Gaelic pitches ready for playing in the spring of 2002. We thank you for your continued support in our work and also thank Area Development Management Ltd and the Combat Poverty Agency through the European Union Special Support Programme for Peace and Reconciliation for their support.
