On a windy day in Malahide Darndale boys had their first match of the new school year. We decided to play against the wind in the first half and we found it hard to get started. By half time we were losing by 2-06 0-00.

However some changes were made at half time and we knew that if we worked really hard we would have a chance of catching up. M Mc Cabe got our first score, a goal, and we were on our way. Soon we were within reach but the final whistle saved Brackenstown.

The score at full time was

Darndale 4- 02 Brackenstown 4-08.

On a sunny Friday evening last week the girls from Darndale had our first game of the year. The match was played in Albert College in Glasnevin. In the first half we played up the hill. At half-time we had yet to score but we knew that if we had a little bit of luck we could catch up. However bad luck was our only friend on this day. Some bad injuries were picked up and some unlucky shooting meant we just couldn't catch up. In the end we lost by 2-06 to 0-01.

Darndale 0-01      Huntstown 2-06

Match Report 22nd October

Darndale (Boys + 1 Girl) V's  Portmarnock

On Tuesday evening in the humid atmosphere that was Fr. Collins Park in Donaghmede Darndale boys played our second match of the year. The team for the day was:

S. Brady
R. Lannigan C.McCarthy C Taffe
L. Baker K.Bermingham C. Darling
S. Maher                           J. Clarke
M. McCabe S. Taffe M. Bollard
D.O’Toole B. Raynor K. White.

Subs: J. Keogh  C. Hunt  D. Brennan.

Right from the off, we knew that this was going to be a tough match to win. Nearly all of their players were bigger than us and we were playing on a very big pitch. So they had the advantage even before the game started. However none of that stopped us from putting in a display of both intelligent football and sheer determination, the like of which hasn’t been seen from a Darndale team in years.

S Brady, having switched back into goal was rock solid behind the defence and was blameless for both goals.

C Mc Carthy, who was our captain, never put a foot wrong at full back and he was helped by good marking and great clearing by R Lanigan and C Taffe.

In the half-backs, L Baker gave a first class display of blocking down the ball. He was helped by K Bermingham and C Darling who hasseled and harried for the whole match.

It was in the middle of the park however that the best player on the pitch was to be found. J Clarke ran, blocked, passed, tackled, organised and led by example for the entire match. He was helped here by S Maher and D Brennan, who came on before half-time.

This was not a good day to be a forward but the boys all tried hard and were unlucky not to score.

Darndale 0-00       Portmarnock 2-1

CROSS COUNTRY RUNNING

On Tuesday the 24th of November, 50 of us  took part in our first race of this year. The ground was very wet and sticky and we found ourselves up to our ankles in mud. However we all stuck to our jobs (pun intended??) and we are proud to say that we all finished our races. This time around it was our GLORIOUS GIRLS who captured the glory by taking 3rd place in the U-12 section. Driven by determination, we battled the elements to claim our place on the winner’s podium and capture the bronze medals.

CROSS COUNTRY ’98

On Tuesday last (15th Dec) we competed in our second race in Baldoyle. After putting in a strong performance in our first visit, our confidence was sky high and we were, once again, looking for a good string of results to take us into the Christmas break.

Our U-10 girls and boys ran their races first of all and put in a very good showing against strong opposition.

In the U-12 races L Baker finished well . The girls also fared very well with six of them finishing in the top ten places.

Once again our girls U-13 team controlled their race and dominated the places. Congratulations to all the girlst. (Ms. Shields must be very proud).

Our next races will be after Christmas when the quest for medals will really heat up.
