The Future at Cahans

The Cahans (cross community) Project Committee has worked for 10 years to secure funding to renovate and develop the 1840 building and site to give it a new future with a variety of uses the Committee have identified including as a meeting place where people within the local community and from parts of the world where former Cahans people are scattered. Good numbers of these return to visit each year. The Committee also see it as a centre which will tell the story of Presbyterianism, particularly in Ireland, and the distinctive place of Cahans in that story. It will further show the witness and influence of Cahans congregation through the centuries, and offer a place where service and sacrifice in world wars will be commemorated.

Only a limited amount of money has been raised, and to date the only work that has been possible on the church building has been reroofing. This, at least, leaves it secure for the foreseeable future. Good local grants from Monaghan County Council and the Department of the Environment have helped in this.

Much more needs to be done - windows, flooring, replastering, pointing, and more, and will be done as money becomes available.
The reroofing has required the Committee to apply to Ballybay Credit Union for significant loans which need to be repaid.
Only with the help of friends in our community, and worldwide, will this be possible.
The Committee holds different fund raising events - an auction, coffee morning, table quiz among them.

Further support from interested people is needed and the Committee invite you to become a Friend of Cahans by making a donation, large or small.

Anyone interested in the making a donation should contact the Committee.
