Curricula and Facilities

Schull Community College has an excellent range of facilities, which allows the College to offer a broad variety of subject choices, both for Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate Students. A very successful Transition Year programme is well established at the College, affording students an opportunity to broaden their range of interests, and to prepare for future life.

College Facilities
Schull Community College is well equipped to meet the needs of its student population. In addition to the Fastnet Marine & Outdoor Education Centre, and Schull Planetarium, the college is proud of its core facilities.

IT Facilities:
The College has a very well-equipped computing department. All Transition Year and senior-cycle pupils have extensive access to the College's main Technology Centre, which runs a network of 30 Pentium PCs running Microsoft Windows 98, and an extensive range of applications and educational resources.
In addition, there are a number of stand alone workstations for the individual departments - science, engineering/materials technology, careers, art and remedial.
The Remedial department has a complement of 4 computers, and runs the innovative Kurzweil OCR and speech synthesis system, purpose designed to help those with reading difficulties.
Extensive use is made of the Internet, both for general information, subject specific information, and careers details.
Students are encouraged to take full advantage of these facilities, with weekly computer classes, and are also offered the opportunity to complete European Computer Driving License modules.

The College has fully equipped facilities for both woodwork/construction, and metalwork/engineering, allowing both to be fully taught to Leaving Certificate level.
These include lathes (wood and metal working), CNC lathe system, milling machine, and the usual work shop appointments.

Art:
The Art department is equally well provided for. Facilities include a kiln, to facilitate pottery work, and an Apple Imac computer system, allowing both digital artwork creation, and research via the World Wide Web.

Science:
The College has a fully equipped laboratory, allowing the full investigation of the experimental and practical sides of Physics, Chemistry Biology and Agricultural Science.

Sports:
The College is provided with excellent facilities in the form of a sports hall, squash court, outdoor basketball/tennis court, football pitch and the Fastnet Marine and Outdoor Education Centre for water sport activities.
