MANOR STREET
The main entrance to the school is situated in Manor Street The old convent was given to Focus Housing and the sisters built a new smaller house with chapel.

The secondary school is new (1977) but the original school is near the main entrance and houses the Primary school. A famous past pupil of which is Pat Kenny

Other famous past pupils of the Secondary School are Eleanor McEvoy, singer and song-writer, Eileen Martin of Riverdance fame, Liz Allen, journalist and Patricia Bardon, well-known contralto.

Manor Street merges into Aughrim St and Prussia St – the top of Prussia Street was where the old Cattle Market was situated.

A Poet Remembers Manor Street

Austin Clarke (1896-1974)

One of Ireland's most distinguished poets, Austin Clarke was born on 9 May 1896 at 83 Manor Street, Dublin 7. His birthplace is recalled in the first lines of his poem Mnemosyne lay in dust’. Our school premises are also mentioned in the poem.

He was born of an easy-going and generous man who worked for Dublin Corporation whose name was Augustine Clarke - the superintendent of the Dublin Water Department.

His mother was Ellen Browne who was both stern and strict, she had twelve children but only four survived - Austin and his three sisters.
