WORK OPPORTUNITIES FOR SCHOOL LEAVERS |
Stuart Wilson, Assistant Head-teacher in Grange Academy Kilmarnock, Alain Muller (Luxembourg) and Maureen Mullery are the teachers involved in a three-year project. | Maureen, Alain |
Prepararation for the world of
work: Students are being prepared for the world of work by learning keyboard skills, writing letters of application and producing CVs. They fill in application forms, on the basis of which a few students go to the next stage - which is, the mock interview. |
On the basis of their application forms four students were selected from each school to be interviewed (in Kilmarnock) for a job as a Summer Camp supervisor. Each student had to present her/himself in a foreign language of her/his choice (French, German, English) and the rest of the interview was conducted in the chosen language of the candidates. |

Certificates of
Achievement were given to the participants. ![]() |
We, teachers, agreed that all the students had a tendency to underrate themselves - they were far too modest about their talents and achievements. |
Future of the Project We have discovered E-mail to be the most satisfactory method of communication between Dublin and Scotland. We hope to initiate video-conferencing sessions in the coming year. The students can practise their foreign languages, show off their work and forge friendships |
Publications We are in the process of producing a booklet with the instructions for filling in application forms, making phone calls, preparing for interviews and translating it into the languages of the countries involved eg Irish (Gaelic), Scots Gallic, Luxembourgish, as well as English, French and German. We further hope to publish this on the web. |
