B
& G Enamelling
In September 1991 Eddie Butler established B&G Enamelling to produce
cast iron house and street signs Ð finished with an enamelled
surface. Initially B&G operated on a part-time basis. The business
grew steadily to a point where he felt expansion to a full-time
operation was feasible. In 1993 B&G identified an opportunity
to provide a service for re-enamelling of cast iron cookers.
Once this niche was identified B&G approached the Waterford City
Enterprise Board for assistance to expand into this area. The
Company was successful in its application for grant aid based
on a comprehensive business plan and interview process.
B&G now provide a high quality re-enamelling service that is unavailable
elsewhere in the country. The business has grown organically and
has established contacts with major manufacturing companies both
in Ireland and the UK.
The process involves dismantling old and damaged cast iron cookers,
shot blasting the components to expose the cast iron, before re-enamelling
and baking them in a furnace at over 700oC. The parts are then
re-assembled and the end result is a cooker that is as good as
new.
Earlier this year B&G moved from rented premises in Tycor to a
newly acquired custom built facility on the Northern Industrial
Estate. The new factory unit comprises state of the art enamelling
and furnace facilities along with dedicated offices and ancillary
buildings.
In recent years B&G has become increasingly busy in the re-enamelling
of old baths, in response to interested customer demand in this
area. B&G have a close working relationship with a UK based company
specialising in antique cast iron baths. B&G re-enamel these baths
prior to them being exported all over the world.
The company now employs people full time and plans to expand into
new markets given the increased production capacity afforded by
the new factory unit. B&G can by contacted on 051-11111 or by
