Reader Reviews
I highly recommend Body Learning - Gelb, January 11, 2001
Reviewer: A reader from NC United States
I am a music major, and I am now in my third semester studying the Alexander Technique. This study has been the most important event in my musical life, and thankfully, it carries over into every other aspect of my life, as well. This book is the required reading for the course. Not that we get a grade on it. It's just immensely helpful. It's not a substitute for a trained Alexander teacher, but it provides another view point, a new way of putting things, of phrasing things, and can help the early AT student grasp the concept of it all a little better. I highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to learn more about the Alexander Technique, and improving the quality of your life.

Book Description
F.M. Alexander developed the Alexander Technique of movement in the early 20th century. Combining vocal clarity and body movement, he developed a performance coaching method used today by dancers, actors, and singers. Kelly McEvenue shows for the first time how this technique can help actors feel more natural on the stage. She provides warm-up exercises, "balance" and "center" exercises, and spatial awareness exercises. She talks about imitation, the use of masks, nudity on the stage, and dealing with injury and aging. She talks about specific productions that have successfully used the Alexander Technique, such as "The Lion King." With a foreword by Patsy Rodenburg of The Actor Speaks, this is a book that belongs on the shelf of every working and studying actor.

About the Author
Kelly McEvenue is a certified teacher of the Alexander technique. She is one of the main acting coaches for the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario.

Reader Review
Excellent introduction to the Alexander Technique, July 16, 1998
Reviewer: A reader from New York, NY
This is a great book for anyone who has heard about the many benefits of the Alexander Technique and would like to find out what it is. The Alexander Technique is often described in very mysterious terms when, in fact, it's quite a simple and practical process. And a very powerful process of self-transformation. Brennan's book is particularly valuable for the newcommer because of its great photographs. They say a picture is worth a thousand words and this is certainly true for explaining the ideas of the Alexander Technique. The book also shows how the Alexander Technique can help with various specific activities. It also has some very interesting case histories. If you have an interest in learning more about the Alexander Technique, I'd get this book. Two other good introductions are "Body Learning" by Michael Gelb and "Fitness Without Stress - A Guide to the Alexander Technique" by Robert Rickover.

Reader Review
Excellent book, March 6, 2000
Reviewer: poised (see more about me at Amazon.com) from Seattle
The Alexander Technique is notoriously difficult to write about, though it is, in my view, the most powerful of the mind/body techniques. Glen Park presents the Technique in a way that is understandable to those with knowledge of New Age healing. While the Technique is arguably not New Age, having been developed in the last century, it deals with energy and the movement of energy through the body to create lasting change in your mind, body, and spirit. I found this book invaluable for explaining what happens when you give or recieve an Alexander Lesson. If you can possibly find and use the audiotape that goes with the book, you'll benefit greatly. I've had many Alexander lessons. Using Glen Park's tape kept Alexander Technique effects going for me at a time when I could not find an Alexander Teacher. Both the book and tape highly recommended. You may have to search "auctions" for the tape.

Reader Review
I've tried the others-this IS the best one not written by FM, May 13, 1998
Reviewer: enrico.alvares@virgin.net
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I am a violinist with the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields and the Technique itself is an **invaluable** element of my life and work---and I would say this book is the best Alexander book not written by FM Alexander himself (it's also much easier to read than FM's brilliant but *very* Victorian prose). This would be my Desert Island Alexander book!
