Pet Care

Hamster Care

Print VersionPrint Version

Before you get a Hamster you should consider these points:

  • Hamsters need feeding every day and their cages need daily tidying and a thorough clean each week. Are you prepared to do this?

  • Hamsters like to live by themselves. They sleep during the day and wake up in the early evening. Are you prepared to leave your hamster alone during its daytime sleep?

  • Hamsters need a lot of exercise. Are you willing to let your hamster out for exercise around the sitting room or kitchen every day?

  • Do you know somebody who will look after your hamster when you go away on holiday ?

Advice for Hamster owners:

A good pet owner looks after his/her hamster everyday. If you play with your hamster regularly, you will get to know its likes and dislikes and its usual behaviour. If you think that your hamster is off form or is not acting like its usual self you should consider calling a vet for advice or bringing your hamster to a vet.

We recommend that if you own a pet you should buy a book on how to care for it properly. Alternatively you might be able to get a book in your local library.
