This coin is a silver proof striking of an Irish halfpenny of George II issued in 1736. This is the only date in the series for which silver proof halfpennies are known. There are copper proofs of 1736 and several other dates. This coin is in Extremely Fine (EF) condition, there are several small marks in the fields and the coin has been lightly polished (as often happens to 18th century proofs) - the uneven outer edge is typical of the proofs as they were struck without a collar. Note the long denticles of the proof striking compared to the short denticles of the currency striking. The currency issues of this coin are very scarce in uncirculated (UNC) condition and quite scarce in better than Very Fine (VF) condition. The 1736 copper proofs of this issue are very scarce and the silver proofs are rare. The copper proofs of other dates in the series are rare.
