This coin is a copper proof striking of an Irish halfpenny of George II issued in 1736.

There are copper proofs of 1736 and several other dates. There is a silver proof of 1736.

This coin is in Proof Uncirculated condition, The colour has toned to an even chocolate brown, the surfaces are glossy and retain some mint lustre - the uneven outer edge is typical of the proofs as they were struck without a collar.

Note the long denticles of the proof striking compared to the short denticles of the currency striking.

The currency issues of this coin are very scarce in uncirculated condition and quite scarce in better than Very Fine condition.

The 1736 copper proofs of this issue are very scarce and the silver proofs are rare. The copper proofs of other dates in the series are rare.

The currency striking is illustrated : George II Halfpenny 1736

The Silver Proof is illustrated : George II - Halfpenny 1736 - Silver Proof
