Youth Exchange

One of the Objects of  Lions Clubs International is: " To foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the World". A very important element of achieving this aim is to help young people to get to know others cultures. This is done by arranging Youth Exchange Programmes. Every year, approximately 35 young people from all corners of the World visit Ireland. The first part of this involves these young people being hosted by Lions and their families. Thurles Lions have been involved in this most enjoyable project for the last five years. The Lions arrange the schedule (usually) a very busy one for their guests and many friendships are formed during their stay.

The other side of this programme is sending young people from Thurles on a Youth Exchange Programme to other countries. In most cases, the only cost to the young person is the cost of their flight and pocket money. All other costs are borne by the Lions Club hosting the project.

Peace Poster

The Lions International Peace Poster Contest was created in 1988 to give young people an opportunity to express their feelings about peace. Since then, more than one million students from over 60 countries have participated in the annual contest. The contest is open to young people worldwide, ages 11-13. However, the contest must be sponsored by a Lions club in a school or with an organized, sponsored youth group.
