Welcome to the Junior
School’s Information Page. Here we hope to give you some details about our
school, which is home to 345 boys ranging in age from 4 to 12, and to give you
an insight into what happens during our day in St. Michael’s.
One Heart and One Soul.
The happy atmosphere in
our Junior School is enhanced by the commitment and the educational skills of
its fully qualified teachers. They guide the students through the
Department of Education's Primary School Curriculum.
The infant classes include
an introduction to reading and writing, practical life exercises, Music, P.E.
and Art and Craft. As students progress additional features such as
Environmental Studies, Drama and Computers are added to the core
curriculum. Working in conjunction with class teachers a Remedial teacher
provides individual attention for students with specific learning
needs.
Students attend a weekly
class Mass in the Oratory by way of preparation for the Sacraments of Holy
Communion and Confirmation. Music at these and other religious ceremonies
is provided by both school and class choirs. The extensive Junior School
library affords students the opportunity to choose a book for recreational and
research purposes or to access information on the library computer. A
computer room is also available at appropriate times.
Sport is very important in
our understanding of education. After-school games are encouraged with
participation by all being an important consideration. Rugby is a major
attraction from September to Easter and Saturday morning games are a feature of
life in St. Michael's Junior School. Tennis and Athletics are popular
particularly during the Summer term.
Formal P.E. classes
introduce the children to a range of other sports such as Gymnastics, Table
Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Unihoc and Olympic Handball. There are
specialist teachers for Swimming, P.E., Music and Drama.
The motto of the Holy Ghost Congregation is 'One
Heart and One Soul'.
The motto of St. Michael's is 'Quis ut Deus' -
'Who is Like Unto God'.
