Art Workshop
For boys in Second and Third Forms interested in art and crafts, Wednesday’s
Art Club from 3.00p.m.-5.00p.m. provides boys with an opportunity to make
various crafts and to work with many different materials.
Drama
As part of the on-going drama programme in the Junior School, the boys in
Third and Fourth Forms recently staged their Easter Concert for their parents
and friends. The night’s entertainment included excerpts from the musical
"Oliver" performed by Third Forms I and II, "Rats" by Fourth Form I and
"Iosagan" by Fourth Form II.
Earlier this year, a cast of 120 Fifth and Sixth Forms students staged the
musical "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". This year’s annual
musical was produced and directed by Ms Maire Cranny, while Ms Aileen Hynes was
musical director. The teachers of Fifth and Sixth were responsible for stage
management, costumes, props and make-up. The show ran for three consecutive
nights during which time the boys sang, danced and entertained the packed
houses.
The 4, 5, 6 and 7 year old boys of St. Michael’s welcomed their parents and
friends to their Christmas Concert last December, when they performed "The
Sleeping Beauty"(J.Inf.), "Dancing Round the Christmas Tree"(S.Inf.), "Elves on
Strike" (1st) and "The Promise" (2nd). Even Santa Claus,
who called on the day of the Christmas Holidays, told the boys in these classes
how much he enjoyed seeing them on stage – he was peeping in the
window!
Music
The school choir, which is open to boys from 3rd to 6th
Forms, has at present 55 singers. Under the direction of Ms Maria Boden,
the boys practise before and during the school day. Here are just some of
the events at which they sing:
- Beginning of year mass for the Junior School families;
- Reconciliation Rites;
- A.I.J.S Prayer Service;
- Christmas Carol Singing;
- Christmas Concerts;
- First Confession Ceremony;
- First Holy Communion Ceremony;
- Confirmation Ceremony;
...and many other events which arise during the school
year.
