Baptisms take place every Sunday at 1.30 p.m. At least two weeks’ notice must be given. Please call to Michael in the Parish Office to collect  a form. To ensure an intimate setting for your child’s Baptism and a dignified celebration, we limit the number of babies for Baptism to four.

Below is our baptism celebration!

Celebrating Baptism

We are happy today to welcome a new baby into the Christian Family.

This baby belongs to its mother and father, is related to grandparents, may have brothers, sisters and many other relatives and friends. This baby belongs to the parish also, is a citizen of the country, and a member of the whole Church. May this child be influenced for good and be a good influence in life.

  1. We accept responsibility for the faith of our child

PRIEST: We will be known by our name in this life and in eternity, so what name have you chosen for your baby?
    We have chosen N.N.

Do you wish this child to be a member of the Christian Family?
    We do.

You have asked to have your child baptised. Will you tell this child of God our Father. Christ our Brother and the Spirit of Love. Will you teach the child to pray?
    We will.

PRIEST (to Godparents): Will you help by showing concern for the well being of this child?
    GODPARENTS: We will.

  5. May this holy oil strengthen this child for the journey of life

Almighty God, you sent your only Son to rescue us from the slavery of sin and to give us the freedom only Your sons and daughters enjoy.

We now pray for these children who will have to face the world and its temptations. Your son died and rose again to save us. By this victory over sin and death bring these children out of the power of darkness. Strengthen them with the grace of Christ and watch over them at every step of life’s journey.
    Through Christ our Lord.
    Amen.

We anoint you with the oil of salvation in the name of Christ our Saviour. May He strengthen you with His power, Who lives and reigns forever and ever.

  6. Blessing the Water

Father, God of mercy, through these waters of Baptism you have filled us with new life as your very own children.
    ALL: Blessed be God.

From all who are baptised in water and the Holy Spirit, you have formed one people, united in your Son Jesus Christ.
    Blessed be God.

You have set us free and filled our hearts with the spirit of Your love, that we may live in Your peace.
    Blessed be God.

You have called your children to this cleansing water and new birth that by sharing the faith of your Church they may have eternal life.
Bless this water in which they will be baptised.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
    Amen.

  7. We profess the faith we want to share with our Child

    Dear Parents and Godparents,
You have asked to have your child baptised. By water and the Holy Spirit this child will receive the gift of new life from God who is Love. It will be your constant care to bring the child up in the practice of the Faith. Baptism is parents’ day too, since you publicly promise to hand on the Faith to your child.

Do you reject what is evil?
    I do.

Do you believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth?
    I do.

Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his holy Son, Our Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, died, and was buried, rose from the dead, and is now seated at the right hand of the Father?
    I do.

Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the Communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting?
    I do.

This is our Faith that this baby is our child of the Father, a brother or sister of Jesus Christ and the possessor of the Holy Spirit and so is made for the community of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. May this child be helped by all of us who profess the same faith to think of others in life, to work for others and to be a good neighbour. Is it your wish that this child be baptised in the faith of the Church we have professed?
    It is.

I BAPTISE YOU IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, AND OF THE SON AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

  8. May this child help to build a better world

God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ has freed you from sin, given you a new birth by water and the Holy Spirit, and welcomed you into his holy people. He anoints you with the chrism of salvation. As Christ has anointed priest, prophet and king, so may you live as a member of his body, sharing everlasting life.
    Amen.

  9. May this child, clothed in white, following Christ discover the wonder of being human

You have become a new creature, clothed in Christ. See in this white garment the outwards sign of your Christian dignity. With your family and friends to help you by word and example, may you gain everlasting life.
    Amen.

  10. May this child be a light of joy

Receive the light of Christ. Parents and godparents, this light is entrusted to you to be kept burning brightly. This child has been enlighted by Christ. May he (she) walk as a child of light. May the flame of Faith be alive in his (her) heart. When the Lord comes may he (she) meet him with all saints of heaven.

  11. May this child hear God’s word and praise his goodness

The Lord Jesus made the deaf hear and the dumb speak. May he soon touch your ears to receive his Word and your mouth to proclaim his Faith, to the praise and glory of God the Father.
    Amen.

  12. May God bless us all; may Mary keep us in her care.

    Dear Friends,
This child has been christened and is now called a child of God. It is the beginning of the journey of life. Please God, you will have the joy of being with this child on First Communion Day and see your child take on mature Christian living on Confirmation day, when the fullness of God’s spirit is given. Let us pray (sing) together as children of God’s Family.

Our Father, who art in heaven ……………

    A BLESSING FOR THE MOTHER
May God the source of life and love who fills the hearts of mothers with love for their children, bless the mother of this newly baptised child. As she thanks God for her safe delivery, may she find joy in the love, growth and holiness of her child.

    A BLESSING FOR THE FATHER
God is the giver of all life, human and divine. May he bless the father of this child. With his wife he will be the first teacher of his child in the ways of Faith. May he also be the best of teachers witness bearing witness to the Faith by what he says and does.
