SPRING NEWSLETTER 2001

We hope everybody had a good mid-term break and we are all hoping the dreaded foot-and-mouth disease keeps well away from us. Please use the mats at the entrances to the schools until the crisis is over and we will need to continue to be vigilant for many weeks to come. We had a lovely outing to Dublin on February 17th. The bus left with 26 on board at 9.30am and after the obligatory stopover in Mother Hubbards we arrived in good time at the National Concert Hall. We even had time to go for a stroll in St. Stephen's Green before the concert. The concert itself was very enjoyable and it was nice to hear some of them doing old favourites of ours - Radetzky March, Allegro from the Four Seasons, Overture to William Tell etc. The Royal Irish Academy's Percussion ensemble was one of the guest groups and they were stunning. What a great idea to have a percussion group!

It is concert time again and we will be having our first one on Sunday afternoon 1st April D.V. The Suzuki violins will be playing the following:
Martini Gavotte, Witches Dance, Hunters Chorus, Judas, Gossec Gavotte, Minuet 2, Minuet 1, Shoe the Donkey, Fainne Geal an Lae and from Allegro back to Twinkles.
Violas will play Brahms Waltz, Minuet 3, Bohemian Folk Song, Andantino and from Allegro back to Twinkles. Cellos will play March in G, Minuet in C, Rigadoon, Andantino and Allegro back to Twinkles. The weekly group classes will now concentrate on the concert pieces.
Those preparing for London College Spring exams will have their exams on the 9th/10th April in Galway. More details of these later. Leaving Cert and Junior Cert practicals will be held on either the last weekend of March or the first weekend in April. So plenty of work there for everybody.

After Easter we will organise a piano concert, solo concerts and an end of term concert. So nobody will escape! Congratulations to Eimear Noone of Kilconnell who will conduct the Dublin City Chamber Orchestra in the NCH on Saturday 21st April. Music will include themes from very popular films and one of the guest artists is Cora Lunny who played in New Inn a few times as a young Suzuki student. There is a bus being organised to go to the concert so contact Eimear if you would like to go.
