Dart The Dart (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) is an electrified suburban railroad of 42 kilometres length, connecting Howth on the north side of Dublin Bay and Bray in county Wicklow on the south side of Dublin Bay. The line runs through the city centre of Dublin. From the very moment the electric trains replaced the old diesels in 1984 the Dart system has proved to be a great success. The Dart line is recently extended to Greystones where approximately once an hour a Dart train terminates. In the northern direction some Dart trains run from Howth Junction to Portmarnock and Malahide. All in all some 52 kilometres of suburban railroad have been fitted with overhead wires to supply the electricity to the Dart trains. All other railroads in Ireland are worked with diesels only.
