Mr. William Finnerty
"St Albans", New Inn,
Ballinasloe, Co. Galway.

December 15th 2000

REGISTERED POST

President Mary McAleese
Aras an Uachtarain
Pheonix Park
Dublin 8.

Dear President McAleese,

RE: ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF RECEIPT
FOR LETTERS ADDRESSED TO YOU

I have received a letter (dated November 16th 2000) from Ms Mary O’Donnell (Secretariat) stating that she has found the missing letter I sent to you through the registered post on October 11th 2000.

In all, I have sent four registered letters addressed to you personally; and I know from Ms O’Donnell’s letters to me that she now has received all four of them. The letters in question were sent to you through the registered post on the following dates: September 14th 2000, October 11th 2000, October 26th 2000, and November 13th 2000.

To date, the manner in which Ms O’Donnell has acknowledged receipt of the letters mentioned in the paragraph above suggests that you may (know) nothing at all about them. This seems wholly unreasonable to me: particularly when I have already made a number of requests for clarification on this specific point.

As I trust you will understand, I am very conscious of the fact that Ms O’Donnell is not the President; and, more importantly, that she does not have the responsibilities of the job of President. That is why I have always written to you, and not to her.

I would like to stress that when Ms O’Donnell acknowledges receipt of my letters to you in a way which gives the impression you are not even being told about them, she is (as I see it) completely undermining the whole purpose of I writing to you: for no good reason that I can think of.

Allowing for the above, it would be much appreciated if you would acknowledge receipt of this letter in a way which removes all doubt about you personally being aware of the four registered letters referred to in paragraph two above.

I am attaching to this letter a hard copy of an email (copied to you) which I sent to Government Minister Noel Dempsey on November 30th 2000. In it I have stated why I feel it is appropriate for me to inform you about the matter of Site 93 (the Children’s Burial Ground in New Inn).

Yours sincerely,

Mr William Patrick Finnerty.

COPIES (via registered post) TO:
Prime Minister Ahern T.D.
Deputy Prime Minister Ms Mary Harney T.D.
