Information Age Town Project
Chairman of Castlebar Information Age Town Committee
This is one of my proudest achievements to date, under my chairmanship
my committee and I, succeeded in securing £1 million pounds of investment for Castlebars
future. My work rate & commitment to this project was total, and the complete and
total support of every man woman and child in our town contributed to this. This is a
perfect example of what can be achieved; if everybody involved is committed and all
pulling in the same direction. Castlebar can be justifiably proud of the fact that we
fought off competition from over 56 towns in Ireland, some much bigger than us and with
more resources to draw on. Well done Castlebar.

Castlebar Chamber of Commerce
Officer of the Castlebar Chamber of Commerce
I have been heavily involved in the Castlebar Chamber of Commerce for a
number of years now, I am now an officer on the executive Council of the chamber, and I am
committed to both the Chambers development and the towns economic and social well being.
The chamber has undergone enormous change in the recent past; it is now a younger and more
vibrant organisation working much closer with the rest of the community in Castlebar. The
Chamber has done a lot for the town with my committee, the tidy towns committee and the
tourism action committee to name but a few.

Business Watch
Chairman of Castlebar Business Watch
I was also instrumental in forming Castlebar Business watch, in association with the
Chamber of commerce and the Local Gardai Siochanna. This is very like the neighbourhood
watch schemes that you may be familiar with, except it is designed for business.
This helps with the safety of customers and business people alike. It helps to identify
potential weaknesses in security, prevention fraud, and cuts down on the possibility of
robberies. This is an example of a proactive organisation instead of a reactive one. I am
committed to eliminating threats to our towns people and to its businesss.
Together we can combat all types of crime and make our town a safer place.

Residents Association
Chairman of the Town Centre Residents Association
I live over the shop on the main street in Castlebar, and as you can
appreciate it can be a lot rowdier than living in one the towns many estates. I was
instrumental in setting up the town centre residents association to represent the views of
the people who actually live in the town centre. We have made representations to the local
authorities and the Gardai Siochanna on many issues and with some success. As a result of
this I am familiar with concerns regarding residential issues, and these are common to all
residents in our town.

Proprietor Wynnes newsagents Castlebar.
I am proud to be in business in Castlebar, we have been serving the needs of Castlebar
people for over 135 years. Established in 1864 on Market Street in Castlebar our family
first came to town, my great grandfather T.A.Wynne set up a general store on the main
thoroughfare and sold nearly everything imaginable. He was a man of vision and years ahead
of his time, a pioneer in many respects and one of the first photographers in the west. |
