The History of Portlaw section features the work of the history group of the Portlaw ICA and I am very grateful to them for allowing us to publish their work on our website.
Portlaw in 1848 features the work of sixth class which was used to create a newssheet. No
history of Portlaw would be complete without mentioning Curraghmore
and its beautiful grounds. Orla also wrote for the same newspaper another article entitled the Origin and Development of the Cotton Industry 1825-1840. Times Past features photos of places of historical importance in the village. Finally, I am delighted to include a newspaper article written by a past pupil of the school, Ms Jennifer Long, which chronicles the positive happenings in the village since the closure of the tannery. Jennifer's article is appropriately entitled "Portlaw refuses to decay and die despite the odds." We hope you enjoy your trip through our interesting history. |
