Stray Cats

Stray Cats

While the Dog Control Act helps the local authority in the control of the stray dog population, there is nothing like this in place for cats. The problem with stray and unwanted cats is a major one in our city and county. Each year we take in many cats. While it is possible to find homes for tame cats and kittens it is impossible to find people willing to take in wild ones and nearly all of these have to be put to sleep. Every day we receive calls from people asking us to help with cat problems.

With only one inspector for the whole city and county we can only do our best to help deal with these calls. If only people would spay or neuter their cats this problem could be brought under control. We are fortunate that in the city and to some extent in the county we can ask the Cat Action Trust to help us. You can reach them on 021-4357995. Please remember that we do not get any state or local authority subsidies to help us deal with the cat problem.
