The following is an extract from the first Minutes of the CSPCA

At a public meeting held on 19th 1870 in the Ball Room Imperial Hotel the Mayor Wm. Hegarty presided. After some preliminary remarks by the Mayor, R. Lavitt? addressed the meeting at some lenght on the subject of cruelty to animals after which he proposed
the 1st Resolution as follows:

" That this meeting impressed with the necessity of endeavouring to check the many cases of Cruelty to Animals occuring in our City as proved by the report which has been read resolves to form an association to be named ' The Cork Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ' "

This was seconded by J.B. Daly clk who also spoke on the subject. William Perrott next addressed the meeting very appropriately and proposed
the Second Resolution as follows:

" That Robert Scott Esq. be appointed President and the following gentlemen Vice Presidents :
Wm. Hegarty Mayor - J. Daly Mayor Elect
Professor de Vericorona? - H. Linkles?
Henry Richardson - Joshua Harvey M.D.
Capt. Tooker? - Benjamin Haughton "


Seconded by G. Magill clk.
