Mer de Glace
The weather stayed bad for a few days and it limited what people could do (in
the mountains anyway, the shops and bars were full). When things improved a
little people went walking. So Penny, Elaine and I hiked up to the Plan
d'Aiguille, walked over to the Mer de Glace glacier and then back down into
Chamonix.

It seems like it is a popular place or hikers to lunch. So there were loads of
Alpine Chuffs in the area looking for scraps. They were pretty unafraid of
people and would come within a metre or so looking for food.

And when Elaine got up for her camera the opportunistic little buggers made
a dive for her lunch!

Back down in the valley there was a nightly gathering of the great and good in
the MCI tent to swap beer and war stories. Note the similarities to Whympers
engraving of the guide
s in 19th century Zermat.
