Kundalini Yoga: A Simple Guide to the Yoga of
Awareness is an introduction to living your life
with more awareness and spirituality, as well as a guide
to the principles of this form of yoga as taught by Yogi
Bhajan, the author's teacher. Kundalini yoga includes
habits and practices that "balance the glandular
system, strengthen the nervous system, and enable us to
harness the energy of the mind and the emotions,"
explains the author. She clearly explains many facets of
this kundalini lifestyle: breathing (including breathing
exercises), spirituality, food choices and preparation,
chants and meditations, the chakras (energy centers in
the body), self-healing, sleep, communication, and using
yoga postures for health.
This is not an exercise book of yoga postures--although
several are illustrated--but a guidebook toward a more
spiritual path. "Spirituality cannot be taught. It
has to be caught, you have to get it from someone who's
got it." The book describes the path to a more
spiritual life using kundalini yoga philosophy and
practice. You don't have to move to a cave to adopt these
practices--the author shows you how you can use them to
balance even a busy, modern lifestyle. -- Joan Price

THIS IS AN AWESOME YOGA BOOK!, January
28, 2002
Reviewer: decotiis
(see more about me at Amazon.com) from Austin,
TX
This is a very open minded book - inclusive of all
religions, with the underlying belief that Kundalini yoga
and meditation can serve to deepen all spiritual
practices.
In this book, Gurmukh devotes a chapter to each of the
chakras and discusses the strengths and shadow sides of
each energy center. Each chapter tells stories and gives
examples, either from Gurmukh's life or from the lives of
her students. When discussing the second chakra she gives
an account of a man who felt that he was addicted to sex
- and then she discusses the path he took towards healing.
In the chapter which discusses the third chakra she
relates a story about a woman who was consumed by anger
and how focusing her healing energy on that chakra
brought her to a new level of health and well-being (the
woman had AIDS as well). In the chapter on the 6th chakra
she tells about a woman who decided to take anti-depressants
after yoga helped her realize that she was clinically
depressed. Gurmukh also tells her own stories of
addictions, pain and healing. Each chapter also gives
examples of specific exercises to do for each chakra.
This book is a great addition to any yoga library.

Reader Review
Excellent, "must have" for every yoga
practitioner !, November 5, 2001
Reviewer: A reader from Los Angeles, CA United States
Sadhana Guidelines is a "Must have" book for
anyone who wants to practice Kundalini Yoga. If you
haven't tried Kundalini yoga, you're in for a treat. It
goes beyond the postures (asanas) of Hatha Yoga. Sadhana
(which means "personal spiritual practice")Guidelines
supplies in-depth descriptions and explanations of the
mudras, the mantras, and excellent sets of exercises (kriyas)
clearly described and illustrated so you know what to do,
how to do it, and how long to do it. (It's an ideal
manual, making an excellent companion to KUNDALINI
YOGA: The Flow of Eternal Power which explains the
philosophy of Kundalini Yoga.)

Reader Review
Kundalini yoga for all, October 4, 2002
Reviewer: Mrs Eve de Meza (Seva
Simram Kaur) from Exeter, Devon United
Kingdom
The most outstanding quality of this excellent book is
its accessibility to both the novice yoga student and the
experienced teacher. It is a rare treat to find a book on
Kundalini Yoga which encourages the reader to work alone
if there are no expert teachers around. It does this in a
safe, confident and careful manner, leading the reader
through the initial stages to the final, satisfactory
stages of practising this powerful yogic system.
The book is set out in four parts :
1. Numerology and the chakra system
This aids the student in choosing which kriya and
meditation to practice in order to balance the chakras.
2. Your practice - preparation for practice.
3. The kriyas and meditations - beautifully photographed
and clearly explained with smiling, confident models.
4. Kundalini components - an essential explanation of
yogic elements.
The book includes precautions, an excellent glossary,
some concise tables explaining the chakras and our ten
bodies.
As a teacher, I have used this book for several months,
finding it so well produced, I can work from it very
easily and I have also recommended it to my students.

Reader Review
Intense, too magical, perhaps too selfish,
December 14, 2001
Reviewer: A reader from Raleigh, NC United States
This is a very intense book. Although there is a lot of
information here, it seems the author is writing
something to open up people to Kundalini for the purposes
of obtaining psychic and magical power. This focus can be
dangerous because the emphasis seems to be very much on
the 'me' rather than how can my service to humanity be
achieved using these methods.
You probably want to start elsewhere and then browse
through a copy after you have studied chakras and
kundalini for awhile. Not beginner material.

Reader Review
Must Have for all people interested in Kundalini,
August 14, 2001
Reviewer: John Tylwalk
from Lebanon, PA United States
This was a great work done by a great man. It tells the
story of the horror and delight a yogi went through when
he accidently tapped the powers of the serpent. Kundalini
dwells within all of us and this book forwarns all who
wish to awaken it. This book is Gopi's account of the
changes which took place inside of him self and the
complex bioelectric changes which must occur for
Kundalini awakening.
Although this is a great account of Kundalini awakening,
it is not a book of exercises or practices. It is more of
a warning of the pain one will go through if not prepared
for the "Evolutionary Energy". Gopi has written
many other books which deal with meditation, exercises,
preparation, and the like.
Even if you wish to find books which teach how to awaken
the Kundalini through practice, this is still a must have.
It tells of the different effects the Kundalini awakening
will have on your body and also and added comentary from
a respect psychologist.

Book Description
The first complete and fully illustrated guide to
Kundalini available!
Kundalini comes from the Indian word kundal, which means
"lock of hair from the beloved." The uncoiling
of this "hair" is the awakening of the
kundalini, the creative potential that already exists in
every human. The yoga in this book is a sampling of the
vast wealth called Kundalini Yoga. Here you learn about
the branch of yoga based on the teachings of Yogi Bhajan,
Ph.D., who brought Kundalini Yoga from India to the West
in 1969. Master yoga teacher and author Shakta Kaur
Khalsa demonstrates how Kundalini Yoga works for everyday
life and every person. You are not required to be in
perfect physical shape or share any particular belief
system. Kundalini Yoga works for you if you can breathe
and move your body! In this type of yoga, the most
important thing is experience. Your experience goes right
to your heart, your core. These ancient teachings are
designed to give you a hands-on approach to experiencing
your deepest emotions and highest consciousness. By
approaching Kundalini Yoga with openness and respect, and
by following the steps included in this book, you can
change and enrich your life.
