Fifth ClassFifth classes were amongst the children who were both delighted and highly entertained by the noted author Cora Harrison on her recent visit to the school. A retired teacher, she returned to Ireland to live in a cottage on a farm which is called “Drumshee”. Near her house sitting on top of a nearby hill is a two thousand year old Iron Age Fort and the ruins of a castle, around which Cora explained she bases most of her stories. Here are some photos of Cora talking to the children and giving them the background to many of her stories. Fr. Dan Neenan, the Religious Education Advisor for the Diocese who attended the school in early February is always a popular visitor .

Visit to the Hunt Museum
Fifth classes were delighted to be invited to visit the Hunt Museum for an ongoing project on archaeological digs as part of their Outreach education programme. They were able to view slides to show them precisely the kind of work involved in archaeology. There would be follow up activities and specially prepared "dig sites". The children were given the necessary equipment and instructions. Patience was of the utmost importance ! They had to sift through the pits and record all the objects they found. They worked on a Bronze age pit, a Monastic site pit and a Stone age pit. It was a new and wonderful experience for them. Our sincere thanks go to Clodagh and all the staff at the Museum for a day we will remember ! BARBARA WINS ! Congratulations to Barbara [ Nolan ] who won a certificate in the Clare Community Games "Clean Up Clare " Poster competition sponsored by Clare County Council and the Department of the Environment.
