    3rd - 7th February- Week 11

Scroll down for a most recent update.

The sun lit up the site very briefly on Monday, 3rd February, but it remained bitterly cold. Foundations are still being poured, incorporating some heavy pieces of iron for added strength. It takes a full 28 days for this cement to harden completely, but building can commence after a week.

On Tuesday the boys of Fifth and Sixth Classes had a chance to visit the site - and learn a little about building! Our sincere thanks to Joe Sweeney for his time (and patience)!

The girls, by the way, were in their RSE classes. They will get their turn next week!

Friday, and the foundations are almost finished. The photo on the bottom right shows iron that has been embedded in the concrete for added strength. The picture above is where a steel support will go, that will help give added strength to one of the walls. There are lots of these supports around the foundations.

We couldn't resist the photo on the left. It's our Alamancher tree - just coming into leaf! We were rather concerned about it, as building is quite close, though if required, it can be relocated. A brief reminder of the planting ceremony is on the right with our Dept. inspector at the time, Pádraig O'Loinsigh. The tree was planted in April, 2000 for the millennium. Mr O'Loinsigh has since entered retirement and we wish him well.
