2nd - 6th December 2002 - Week 2
When we arrived to school on today (Monday), we discovered that three of the six prefab sections had indeed been delivered. The remaining three parts will come soon and be attached, to make four temporary classrooms in total. Sadly, our playground is getting a lot smaller.
RTE were in school today to film Sixth Class for a series of Science programmes. Part of the filming took place in the playground - filming energy as released by the children! The excitement at seeing this new prefab, together with the wind gave the children an over-abundance of energy!!
Plywood hoarding is also being attached to the posts that were put in place last week. This hoarding will be extended to cut off the upper part of the school and allow demolision to take place safely.
It is hoped that the electrics to this building will be in place by the end of the week, leaving next week to work on the plumbing. This will be connected to the plumbing from the Parish Hall.
The children have a day off school tomorrow (Wednesday) due to an inservice training day for teachers. This will no doubt will leave the builders to work in relative peace!
Meanwhile, Fourth Class was being moved together. It's starting to look like a classroom at last.
The remaining three sections of our temporary school were added late on Monday night and were therefore in place by Tuesday morning. The playground is now significantly smaller! Quite a stretch of hoarding is also in place.
Work continued in peace during our inservice day and as Thursday's photos show, a ramp is being put in place for disabled access. It is now hoped that partitions will be in place and the interior virtually completed by Sunday!
